Load shedding returns as power shortfall reaches 5845 MW

ISLAMABAD: Citizens who are already braving the current heatwave now also have to bear load shedding, as the country is facing a power shortfall of 5,845 megawatts.
According to sources, the demand for electricity stands at 24,500 megawatts, while the production is currently at 18,655 megawatts creating a shortfall of 5845 megawatts.
Due to the shortfall, load shedding is being carried out for six to eight hours in rural areas while the urban areas are facing power cuts ranging from four to six hours. In regions with high line losses, load shedding durations extend from 12 to 14 hours, sources report.
Heatwave continues across most regions, Wednesday intensifies temperatures
Sources indicate that 5,000 megawatts are being generated from hydropower sources.
Government thermal power plants are contributing 975 megawatts to the grid, while private sector power plants are producing 8,350 megawatts.
Wind power plants are generating 790 megawatts, and solar power plants are contributing 200 megawatts. Additionally, bagasse-based power plants are generating 140 megawatts, and nuclear power plants are producing 3,200 megawatts.
