PPP celebrates Benazir Bhutto’s 71st birth anniversary today

KARACHI: The 71st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed will be celebrated on Friday.
Benazir Bhutto was born on June 21, 1953 in Karachi at Pinto’s Nursing Home, to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Begum Nusrat Ispahani. She was the eldest child of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and she herself rose in power from holding a position in Pakistan’s United Nations delegation to eventually becoming the prime minister. In 1988, she became the first woman to be elected as leader of a Muslim state. Her impressive political journey came to an end in December 27, 2007 when she was fatally injured during a PPP rally held in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat National Bagh.

Today, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) will organise the main ceremony commemorating Benzair Bhutto’s birthday at Chakiwara area of Lyari Town. Sindh local government minister Saeed Ghani informed this on Thursday while presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements of the ceremony.
Ghani said that the main ceremony was organised in Lyari on the instructions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who will also deliver speech at the ceremony. Provincial General Secretary PPP Sindh Waqar Mehdi said that routes of public and traffic have been designed and announced while workers of PPP Youth and student wings will menage routes for traffic and public entrance in the venue.
Shahina Sher Ali said that on behalf of the PPP Women Wing, women workers from all over the city will participate in the event.
