KARACHI: Karachi has finally found some respite from its scorching heat as the sea breeze has returned, notified the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday.
For days, the metropolis had been enduring extreme temperatures, but the PMD reported today that sea winds are now blowing at 18 km per hour.
Despite this relief, the weather is expected to remain hot and humid in the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures predicted to reach between 35°C and 37°C. The humidity level is currently at 70 per cent.
Over the past 24 hours, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 32°C.
As per a weather analyst, the hot and humid conditions had created low air pressure over the Arabian Sea, but this situation is likely to change soon.
Early morning rain in Lahore brings relief from heat
The return of the sea breeze might bring sea clouds to the city, with a chance of drizzle during the night and early morning in the coming days.
Karachi has been under a severe heatwave recently.
As dry and hot weather conditions with spells of heatwaves grappled in the city, the metropolis recorded its hottest night of July since 2021 last night.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), in July 2021 and 2022, temperatures were recorded at 31°C, while last night the lowest was recorded at 32°C.
The PMD says that last night the temperature was recorded 4.1°C above normal.
While temperatures are expected to fall in the city due to sea breezes, the Met Office has predicted that “over the next 24 hours, the weather is expected to remain hot and humid, with maximum temperatures likely to reach 35°C to 37°C”.
However, for the month of July, the PMD has forecast that the normal temperatures will remain around 27.9°C.
