KARACHI: Minister for Energy Muhammad Ali on Monday clarified that the caretaker federal government has no intentions to decrease the rates of solar net metering, a process that enables individuals with solar panels to sell surplus daytime-generated electricity back to the National Grid, thereby reducing their overall electricity bills.
According to Dawn.com, during a media interaction held at the Governor House in Karachi, Minister Ali, accompanied by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, shared insights into the government’s efforts to combat electricity theft through a nationwide operation. He emphasised that these initiatives aim to lower electricity costs.

Meanwhile, the minister also highlighted the impact of fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate on electricity rates, noting that July bills experienced changes due to this factor, resulting in higher electricity bills for consumers in August.
Furthermore, the energy minister announced plans to unveil a special electricity tariff for traders before October 31.
He also revealed preparations to ensure an adequate gas supply for industries during the winter season, with a focus on sustaining industrial operations. He said that proposals from the business community in this regard would be presented to the Prime Minister.
