US election: exit polls reveal who is voting for Trump

election

WASHINGTON: According to The Washington Post, election exit polls revealed on Tuesday the demographics that are voting for former US president Donald Trump in the seven swing states.

As expected, the majority of women are voting for Vice President Kamala Harris, as 54 per cent of those who took the exit polls revealed that they voted blue. In contrast 54 per cent of Men voted for Trump.

Throughout the swing states, Trump is leading with men, with the highest discrepancy between eh two candidates coming in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, as 57 per cent of men in both states voting for Trump. Similarly, Kamala is leading with women in each swing state, with the highest discrepancy coming in North Carolina, as 56 per cent of women in the state voted for Harris. Trump has already won North Carolina.

In regards to age, Harris leads with voters up to the age of 44 in every swing state except for Arizona, where Trump has the lead in the 30-44 year old demographic. Trump is finding more support from those aged 45-64 in each swing state. The oldest demographic, 65 and above, is tightly contested between the two, with the vice president finding more support in Michigan and Wisconsin, while Trump is more popular in every other swing state, albeit by minor margins in Pennsylvania.

US election: Trump winning every swing state

A breakdown by ethnic group reveals another layer into the typical Trump voter. Unsurprisingly, Trump leads with the white demographic in each swing state except for North Carolina, however as was previously mentioned, the former president has already won that state. Harris has a huge amount of support from black voters, while Latino voters are more divided. The latter results are surprising considering the recent turmoil the Trump campaign withstood in the closing days of their campaign after some racist comments were made regarding Puerto Ricans.

Across America, Trump is supported by 45 per cent of Latino voters according to exit polls, a figure that is 13 points up from Trump’s previous presidential outing in 2020 when only 32 per cent of the demographic supported Trump. The biggest surge in Latino support comes from men, with 54 per cent of the demographic supporting Trump.

Harris seems to be finding more support from the Asian demographic, however many sample sizes were too small to draw a conclusion from.
