Two senior officials arrested in Sahiwal Teaching Hospital fire incident

SAHIWAL: The Medical Superintendent of Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, Dr Mehboob Akhtar, and the Principal of Sahiwal Medical College, Dr Imran Hasan, were arrested by the police following a devastating fire in the children’s ward of the teaching hospital.

The fire tragedy, which claimed the lives of ten children, prompted action from the authorities.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took immediate notice of the incident, directing the arrest of the officials concerned. Provincial government’s spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed that those responsible for the tragedy would be brought to justice.
The arrests have sparked a significant response from the medical community in Sahiwal. In protest, doctors from the Teaching Hospital have ceased work in Outpatient Departments (OPDs) and wards, demanding the release of their colleagues and a fair investigation into the incident.
